Bloomberg Law: Maine Launches Latest Climate Deception Suit Against Oil Giants

Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey (D) joined other top state attorneys on Tuesday in bringing litigation against fossil fuel companies over alleged deceptive practices.

Exxon Mobil Corp., BP PLC, and other energy giants now face a climate deception lawsuit from the state of Maine, which claims that companies lied to residents for decades about how their products exacerbate climate change.

“Last winter’s devastating storms are just further proof that climate change is harming our lives, our health, and our economy – and it is time for the fossil fuel industry to be held responsible,” Maine Governor Janet Mills (D) said. “Attorney General Frey has always stood up for what is best for Maine people, and I applaud him for doing so yet again by filing this important lawsuit on their behalf.”
