Inside EPA: NAM Seeks To Counter Climate Nuisance Suits Against Fossil Companies

 

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has launched a project criticizing climate change and other nuisance suits brought against companies, beginning primarily with a communications focus seeking to paint the suits as little more than attention-seeking moves by plaintiffs, who are often ambitious public officials.

However, organizers of NAM’s Manufacturers Accountability Project (MAP) say they might expand the project into direct legal advocacy, including by filing friend-of-the-court briefs opposing the nuisance suits, which in the climate context are seeking damages from fossil fuel companies for their role in exacerbating climate impacts.
